Union Presbyterian Church Worships Through Service

6/15/11

Union Presbyterian Church has an interesting way of spending their "5th Sundays." Each time a month has 5 Sundays, the congregation participates in Service Worship Sunday, where multiple teams spread out around the city to work on various service projects. On May 29th, 5 teams spent 2-5 hours on Sunday morning singing in a senior community, doing yard work, preparing food, and packing care boxes for chaplains in Afghanistan to distribute. Each service begins with community breakfast and a short commissioning service before everyone leaves for their sites. While Union Presbyterian was featured in this news story, other churches in San Jose Presbytery (including West Valley and First Presbyterian of San Jose) also participate in this same type of program.
