Memphis Based Advent Presbyterian Church to Leave PC(USA)

4/12/11

In what is turning into a mass exodus near Memphis, Advent Presbyterian Church of Cordova, Tennessee voted overwhelmingly to leave Mid-South Presbytery for the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. Two other area congregations, Highland Heights Presbyterian Church and Faith Presbyterian Church, have already joined the smaller and more theologically conservative denomination. Two more, Woodland United Presbyterian Church and Grace Presbyterian Church, will vote to leave for the EPC on May 1st and April 19th, respectively. Addressing Advent Presbyterian's desire to leave, senior pastor Dr. Chris Scruggs said, "We are not separating spiritually from the believers in the PC(USA), only organizationally."
